Tyfu Dyfi – Community Led Agricultural Enterprise

Tyfu Dyfi has some resources available to help evaluate whether there is sufficient community support, momentum and one or more sites upon which to establish a community led agricultural enterprise.  If there is, we may be able to assist with its establishment.

What we are looking for:

We want to discuss ideas for one or more substantive community led agricultural enterprise(s) in the Dyfi Biosphere area.  There are various models that could be explored, but all are characterised by a level of partnership between people in the local community and agricultural enterprises - farms or smallholdings.

We want to connect with any farmers and growers in the area who have a good idea they would like to discuss with us. Specifically, before we could fund anything, the farmer or grower would need to be able to demonstrate:

  • broad community support, especially from the existing community that currently makes a living from the local food system

  • either your own land on which to grow, or an agreement to use someone else's land

  • a sound business plan that involves the local community, or at least the beginnings of a sound business plan

  • experience of farming / growing

  • a willingness to grow to agroecological principles

  • a passion for working with people, increasing understanding of the importance of agriculture, and involving the local community in growing their own food

EoI form

If you are still interested in having your idea for a community led agricultural enterprise considered by the Tyfu Dyfi team, click on the button to the left – this links to a Google form which, if you fill it in, should give us enough information to be able to conduct an initial assessment of whether your suggestion is something we might support.  You may not have much detail yet - that's ok - we'd still like to hear from you! Please get something in by the Mon 7th Feb 2022 if you can, though this is not an absolute deadline.

NOTE: The call is now  CLOSED.  There maybe future calls depending on the progress of the project.

What happens next?

The relevant members of the Tyfu Dyfi consortium will meet to review the proposals we recieve. We expect substantial further discussion and stakeholder engagement would be required before any decisions could be taken.

The selection criteria we apply will be apparent as you fill the form in, but in summary, we are looking primarily for ideas that:

  • Can guarantee strong community support and which will attract strong community involvement

  • Will be sustained and have an existence long after the Tyfu Dyfi project

  • Have clear land ownership, a supportive landowner and no rights of way problems, planning restrictions, service issues. etc

  • Are value for money

  • Are a suitable size and safe for the proposed activities

  • Have wider support beyond the immediate community, eg, other community groups, businesses, schools

  • Contribute to wider green infrastructure

Once we have considered your expression of interest, we will get in touch to let you know the outcome, for those sites we select for Tyfu Dyfi support, we will most likely require further information and discussion.
