The area became a Biosphere in 2009 and under UNESCO’s regulations underwent a 10 year review in order to retain its status.
The area witnessed many changes over this period, with new environmental pressures such as climate change, invasive species and diseases to coniferous woodland, through to cuts in public sector budgets.
UNESCO approved the reports in September 2021, from which time five additional Community Council areas formally became part of the Dyfi Biosphere area:
-
Bryncrug and Tywyn in Gwynedd;
-
Carno in Powys;
-
Faenor and Llanbadarn Fawr in Ceredigion.
